Therapy for Teens
Group of Friends

Parenting a teenager is difficult and parents are often left wondering if the things that their teen is going through is normal.  Parents see and observe changes in their teen that they don't understand or maybe did not expect.

Therapy for teens can help bridge those gaps between a parent's questions and a teen's experiences.   Therapy can help teens cope with their daily stressors and the life transitions they are experiencing.

When working with adolescents, I find it important to respect and develop a teen's autonomy and independence by encouraging them to be an active participant in therapy.

Additionally, I find it very important that parents, caregivers, and other natural supports to continue to be involved in treatment with their teen.

Common issues I work with teens on include:

  • Anxiety, Depression, and other mental health needs/diagnoses

  • Gender Identity

  • Feelings of Suicide and Self Harm

  • Relationships

  • Life Transitions

Four Things Teens Gain From Attending Therapy

Guidance

The teen years are tough and teens are faced with many challenges that are hard to navigate. Therapy can be a place of guidance where your teen can learn to make the right decisions.

Resources

With so many changes in a teen's life--new schools, transitions, and peers--therapy is a great way for a teen to explore their internal and external resources to reach their goals.

Connection

In our adolescent years, we crave connection and understanding.  If your teen is feeling that "no one understands," therapy can be a way for them to find a safe and engaging environment to explore a safe connection and find ways to connect with others.

Education

Through therapy, teens can learn so much about themselves, the world they live in, and how to copy with their problems.
