Family Therapy

Four Family Therapy Interventions

1.

The Miracle Question--If you all woke up tomorrow and the problem was resolved, how would you know?  This question might be an intervention your family therapist could ask to explore not only the wishes and desires of the family, but possible solutions to the challenges the family is currently experiencing.

2.

Family Games--Beyond family game nights, playing together as a family can help build connections, communicate better, and learn about rules and boundaries in a family.  Your therapist will choose games to help reach your goals.

3.

Experiential Family Scaling--Working on scaling the problems as a family can help gain perspective from each family member and open lines of communication to make a change within the family.

4.

Family Genogram--A intervention that creates a graphical representation of your family tree.  Through exploration, a genogram can help uncover family patterns and create a better understanding of family dynamics.

Our family impacts who we are, who we become, and how we perceive ourselves.  We learn how to view and cope with the world around up along with how we talk, our habits, our customs and rituals, and so much more.

From our families, we also learn how to love, interact with others, build relationships and communicate.  When we are exposed to healthy and strong relationships, we are likely to learn how to maintain health relationships.  However, when we have disruptions in our stable family relationships, or have struggled to develop those healthy relationships, we struggle to connect with others and cope with life stressors as a family and as an individual.

Family therapy helps a family work together toward a healthy family life, with goals to aid family members in improving communication, solving family problems, understanding and handling special family situations, and creating a better functioning home environment.

Ultimately, the main goal of family therapy is to work together to heal any mental, emotional, or psychological problems that are impacting your family to experience positive relationships, grow, and cope with life stressors.

Through family therapy, family members will be able to:

  • Identify family member's strengths and areas of growth

  • Learn how to communicate better

  • Learn how to resolve issues together

  • Gain a clearer perspective of family dynamics and roles
